We are Recruiting Women who Like to be The
Boss

The Northern Territory Chess Association has opportunities for women to qualify as and
undertake paid work as Arbiters for chess tournaments.

What is an Arbiter?

An Arbiter is a person who settles a dispute or has ultimate authority in a matter. At a chess
tournament the Arbiter runs the entire show. The Arbiter determines who plays who in each
round of the event and resolves any questions of the laws or disputes that may arise during
the tournament games. At a large chess tournament there is a team of Arbiters, led by the
Chief Arbiter.

How does one Qualify to be an Arbiter?

There is a two-day seminar to attend, with an exam at the end of two days. Attending that
course and passing the exam qualifies you to work as an Arbiter in chess tournaments
throughout Australia.

When is the Next Seminar?

The next seminar in Darwin will take place over the weekend of 23-24 May in the CBD.
