NTCA are thrilled to be partnering with The Essington School to host the 2026 Northern Territory Chess Championships.

This ACF rated event is just the second ever Northern Territory Chess Championship; following on from the success of last years event at Darwin High School.

 

When: Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October 2026

Where: Auditorium – The Essington School. 19 Chrisp St, Rapid Creek NT 0810

Format: The event will comprise of two separate tournaments, a Rapid and a Blitz.

Rapid

Entry fee: Adult $80 Child/Concession $60

• 9 Rounds Swiss
• Time control: 15min + 10sec

Prizes:

1^st: $500

2^nd: $300

3^rd: $200

Top Junior: $100

 

Blitz

Entry fee: Adult $40 Child/Concession $30

• 9 Rounds Swiss
• Time control: 3min + 2sec

Prizes:

1^st: $200

2^nd: $120

3^rd: $80

Top Junior: $50

Conditions 

Standard ACF tournament conditions apply.

Rapid games will commence at the exact scheduled time. Clocks will start even if the player is not at the board. If a player forfeits two games in a row they will be withdrawn from the tournament.

Blitz games will commence as soon as the previous round concludes and the draw for the next round is available.

Both formats will be scored win = 1 draw = 0.5 loss = 0

Both formats will use the following tie breaks:

1. Direct Encounter
2. BH
3. BHC1

Yes, membership is easy to purchase via the membership menu

Why do I need to be an NTCA member to enter?
Membership is essential to enter ACF events in the Northern Territory.
NTCA are a not-for-profit organisation. Membership helps to fund equipment, room hire & other administration fees. It also helps us when applying for grants.

Do I need an ACF ID or FIDE ID to enter?
No, if you don’t already have an ACF ID we will create one for you.
This is not a FIDE event, so that is not applicable.

Do I have to be a certain age to enter?
No, there are no age requirements.

Do I have to be a certain rating to enter?
No, there are no rating requirements.
